[SOLVED]Issue regarding error "license server is not running

I got my key, I run Maxwell Studio and go through the activation window. I keep receiving an error claiming license server is not running and that reinstalling will help. I re-installed the license server app as admin, now when I inputed my info the window said the "license can not be validated. Please contact us via the customer gateway."

Any idea?

The previous licensing version was so much simpler...it took me 2 seconds.

When I click on the local host link my browser just says "can not connect to local host".

I guess for now I will give up...tried restarting my computer, tried running as admin the licensing app directly, tried re-installing license server app as admin, tried running Maxwell Studio as admin and go through the activation wizard. None seem to work. I sent tech support a message, but who knows.

Hi talos,

If the browser say "cannot connect to localhost" that means the RLM server is not correctly installed.
There are some support documents that explain the process and has some tips, please take a look and let us know:

nachob, thanks for reply. I did go through the docs. I re-installed the license manager app as admin too. I am not sure what else I can do as far as installing thing properly. Do I need to un-install the license manager first? I don't see the license manager listed in my programs installed under windows "Programs and Features".

First of all, you have floating license and not learning/faculty or node locked license right?

If so, you can also try with the Maxwell 3 installer. It has an option to install the license server (its deactivated by default).

Run Maxwell 3 installer with administrator privileges and activate the option of the license server. After that check:

http://localhost:5054

It it doesn't show anything, then the RLM server is not installed properly.

I did re-run Maxwell installer and checked the License Server box. It automatically asked if I want to activate my license....ran through the wizard again. and It seem to go fine. Then when openned Maxwell, it again said it is not activated...so I ran through the activation window again and put my info. I have floating license, it asked if I want to over-ride existing license which I did. It created a .lic file but said it can not put the file in the proper folder because of permissions (C:/ProgramData/Next Limit/Maxwell/licenses). So I laved the .lic file on my desktop. I found the ProgramData folder and within it "licenses"...ther are already two .lic files: maxwell_license.lic and maxwell_suite_floating.lic ( and a third one sitting on my desktop).
And the rlm seems to still not be working as when go to the link it can not connect. Now I am not sure if I have multiple issues with rlm not running and .lic not being saved in proper location.

I appreciate all assistance.

Looking at the log, I see Foundry is running an RLM also....so i am wondering if Foundry's RLM is creating conflict with Maxwell. I will try to re-assign the port for Maxwell by openning the .lic file. Never done it before.

Ok, so you have another rlm server running in your machine here: C:\Program Files (x86)\The Foundry\\LicensingTools7.0\bin\RLM\rlm.foundry.exe

Then you need to change the port that Maxwell will use:

-Locate the the maxwell_suite_floating.lic file in the computer that's running the RLM server and open it in a text editor. You should find it here:

C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses\maxwell_suite_floating.lic

-Edit the first line of the license to change the 5053 port to something else, such as 5055. Save and close the .lic file.

-Open C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses\maxwell_license.lic in a text editor and change the port number as well (it should be the same port number than the other file)

-Reboot your computer for the RLM server to pick up the changes.

-Now Maxwell should connect to the server using this new port.

-You need to open the maxwell_license.lic file on all the computers that are running Maxwell and also edit the port nr in these files.

I am trying to change port settings, but I am not allowed permission to save over the .lic file. I thought I tried to change the permissions on the licenses folder. I right_clicked on the "licenses" folder and un-checked "read only" option but I still receive error that I need to be an administrator to do this. I am the sole use of the machine and running as admin....am I doing something wrong?

thanks

seghier....thanks so much again. I finally managed to get it running by moving the floating .lic file to desktop and modifying it. Then I moved it back into "licenses" folder and restarted my computer. it seems to finally be working. I tested the plugins in Modo and Rhino for quick renders of primitives, and they too seem to work fine.

I greatly appreciate the help. I learned a thing or two about RLMs.

Thanks nachob too!
