a Maxwell 3 question

Congrats on the spanking new v3, I have been hitting the refresh button for several days now
I am trying to get the "fast multi light preview" to work, but console gives me:
GPU available: ATI Radeon HD 5870 (OpenCL 1.1)
Error running GPU Multilight (-54):
Is it just that my card is not up to speed?
And it seems that blocked emitters don't work on MXS reference files?

Tor M

Try first on a smaller file and see if it works. Then it could mean the card doesn't have enough memory. How many ML sliders does the render have?
I don't think referenced files will work for that, because it's not considered a single object. It can be improved of course to work with single object references perhaps.

Hi Mihai,
It is 6 sliders. (two of them is sun and sky).
I´ll test on a smaller file to see if it works better.
Thank you,
Tor M

Hi,
Trying on a smaller image with only two sliders. I still get the (-54) error in console.
Any tips?

Tor, would it be possible to send us that smaller MXI for testing? PM me a link if you want. Thanks!
How much RAM does your card have?

hi mihai,
Are there any guidelines to how much video ram might be needed for this v3 fast mulitlight to work? for example for rendering at 1920x1080 pixels, a scene with 16 lights/sliders (each light is a flat "card" in my case - no sun or hdri), and multi-light feature is on (but not set to color), then the memory consumed by maxwell is around 16 gb, as far as I remember. Is there a way to then figure out how much video memory would be needed to instant multi-light then?
I sort of need to know as I would upgrade the old 2010 mac pro to the new one sometime soon and would like to know if it's worth spending on the top line of graphics cards (firepro D700 option) with 12 gb ram total or if 6 gb is enough for that to work. saves me 600 bucks - I really never thought I'd even consider 12 gb of ram in a graphics card...
I do a lot of 3D modeling but when I render I use the multli-light heavily to figure out the best lighting for a given view of a model. so I spend time each time pushing the "update button" so it woul dbe really cool to eliminate 1 step of the working-procedure.
I did a serach but couldn't find any info...
any info appreciated.
Thanks!
