How time flies ..
It's been a long time ago when I wished for map-based extra sampling, back in May 2007.

Now, in 2015, it happened!

One question though, about the current implementation:
Would it not be a lot easier to give each material a 'sampling weight', which balances the extra sampling per material? Typically, it's always the same materials (sss, glass, ..) that need extra sampling. So instead of setting this up manually, giving that specific material (the mxm file) a higher 'sampling weight' would deal with this automatically. The default would be 1, which is the way maxwell renders so far already, means it's also backwards compatible with older material files.
All maxwell would have to do before rendering is normalize all 'sampling weights' and dedicate it's resources accordingly to each material.
I think this would be more more sustainable than having to manually set up the extra sampling.
What do you guys think?
Cheers!
