Rhinoll club chair and mxi

Here is a chair render for which I used an mxi emitter. To try to get some texture on the chair fabric, I created a 48"x48" noise map in PS and used it in the bump channel.

Here is a shot showing the image I used as the emitter. There are no other lights in the scene.

Interesting. It simulates the situation of an object as seen by light coming from an adjacent room.

One comment:
The green ground plane color does not provide enough contrast relative to the fabric to isolate the chair from the background. The legs jump out nicely though. But this is possibly in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks for the comment. I guess it depends on whether you want the chair to pop out at you or not and what you find to be aesthetically pleasing. :)

Thanks Frances,

A very clarifying test on how to use an mxi emitter, and a nice chair.

Nico.

I like the design and the smooth light. I miss a little bit speculars on the wood of the legs. The whole image looks a little bit to dark on my screen here, after I have copy it to PS and set the "gradationskurve" (Ctrl-M) to Input-Output 136-156, it looks better for my eyes.

Thanks guys.

Micha, the specular color value is 50 and the U and V roughness is .2. I'll up it to 75 and see what happens.

Hi Micha,

I finally had a little time to put this together:

I upped the specular value to 75. When rendered from the same viewpoint at 640x480, the speculars aren't noticeable to me. From a different angle at higher resolution, they are there.

Interesting. I feel, I can see now a little greenish specular (if I compare it to the first posted image) at the front legs. And the left rear leg show a good to see reflection (spec) of the green background. So, environment and wood match better than befor, both are linked. The other detail view show, that the specular seems to have realistic value.
Do you have small round fillets at every edge? Some times, this small rounded edges bring the last missed realism.

Yes. All the edges have a 0.1" fillet.
