Render View with dark material

Hi Guys- I am trying to render an object using ebony wood as my material. I have to fiddle with my UV mapping and camera projections to get my grain going the correct direction. My problem is that because my material colour is so dark the Rhino render view makes it extremely hard to see if my projection is correct. Is there a way to "add light" in the Rhino render preview window? Or do I just have to keep running test renders? Thanks in advance
Cary

You could go to Scene Manager > Options > Behavior and set 'Disable Material Environment' to yes - that might lighten up the viewport somewhat. Otherwise, I usually have more than just the color map - there will be a bump map, or a roughness map, and it may be easier to set up the mapping if you show one of those in the viewport rather than the color map.

...you can also add a point light and hide it for rendering
...you can also change your "rendered" viewport lighting at Rhino Options>Appearance>Rendered>Lighting Scheme
