Hi,

Does anyone know where I can download a moonstone material?

Cheers.

I was wondering if the SSS system could recreate the scattering effect and give us a Tyndall blue effect like that seen in Moonstone. Let us know if you find a sample or create a new material.

That's a nice looking stone (i used to collect pretty stones when i were a kid) :)

From what i can see it looks very "milky", so how about trying to modify the sss presets for milk regular and milk dilute some and then also model the internal structure with cracks and bubbles inside the moonstone if you want it to look accurate like the references.

Hey Maximus: Moonstone is composed of a mineral called Feldspar which is actually slightly different than most minerals in that each stone is actually composed of two or more minerals in the same family but with very slightly different properties.

When light entering the stone hits very small particles of slightly differing minerals a diffraction effect occurs causing the light to lose energy and give off a blue or white iridescent colour. Much the same reason why our sky is blue.

I would be interested in knowing if this is possible with the SSS system- any thoughts?

That's interesting Cary, thanks for the info on the moonstones behaviour and components. I'll definately give this a shot tomorrow to see if i can come up with something that looks good enough. I can't do it tonight, rendering a animation with Modo right now. :)

Cool Maximus, I look forward to your results... I just finished my first high resolution image (3525 x 2152) and am trying to figure out how to insert my logo in Gimp. Since I am a complete graphics newb it should be fun :)!

I tried yesterday Cary and this is one i cannot create, i'm sorry but you have to ask one of the masters like Tom, KurtS, TomasAn, or the other talented MXM artists on the forum how something like this could be created. I'm clueless.. :(
