Here are a couple of my latest images with Rhinoll / Maxwell.

(This is one of those scenes that keeps loosing its materials.... not much fun  )

Hi Thomas,

Very nice and compact design, great renders.
Will this engine be build for real?

The first one looks like a smaller (desktop)version of the second one, very nice.

Greetings, Nico.

Hi Thomas,

very nice render and good modeling as allways. I also have the feel that the first image shows a smaller scaled model compared to the first picture. However with 450hp in this litle thing, i think it gonna make the boat fly at full speed.

greetings,
clement

Thanks you everyone for the nice words

NicoR44, This was made about a year ago for a client's patent on some of the internal components (which I can't show) but I decided to make the whole engine as accurate as possible as a modeling exercise. The engine is loosely based on the Yamaha model http://www.miamibillfish.com/newimages/ ... stroke.jpg

uniminium: Thank you Clement. About the scale.... I guess the camera angle of view has something to do with it. In the second image the camera shoots upwards and has the engine (short of) towering above.

iker Thank you for nice words !

Adam Trachtenberg Yeah I was debating about the finish and thought that a matte will have less glare in practical situations in the open sea environment. It turns out it doesn't look too bad either.

ginosso Thank you !

Clement and Nico,

You were right.
I double-checked and the model is only 100cm tall (it should have been 150cm or more; the size of the standing adult... this is supposed to be a huge motor).

I haven't had a look on the web but did the engines go into production (450hp that is dam huge for an outboard).
True, 250hp is the highest as far as I know.

So, 450hp is pushing the "NextLimit"

Respect...well done Thomas.

Just one small personal comment. After render with any kind of software, I always use a sharpen filter. Try it and tell me what do you think.

Incredibly realistic! Besides the product I also love the way how the background (little brownish/yellow) just makes the picture perfect.

If I may ask, what material settings did you use for the matte(rough) plastic? (top part of the engine) Any special absortion or scattering?

Thomas,

you have used the scatter option - do it work? If yes, what do it?

For better caustic control I have an idea. If we could render in separate chanals diffuse lighting and caustic lighting, than we could edit the caustic chanal in a photo software and add it to the diffuse chanal.

Micha,

Those parameters are not working yet in any plugin. I set them up to test and then I forgot and left them in.

Very nice renderings. Amazing for getting this out of an Alpha. Great work.

Wow..such a wonderful rendering !
How did you deal with the decal (silkscreen) ? Are they modelled ?
Would you share the rendering parameter with us ? As I'm a super newbie in Maxwell ! Thx ! :P
