Changing tile size X & Y question

Not sure if this should be in the mxm forum but will start here.
I have a material which has a bump map. I change the tile x & y from 1,1 to say 10,10. I see I have to also change the bump tile to 10,10 .

Is this normal, should I have to change the bump map?

Hi Richard,

Sorry, but I may have misunderstood the question. Are you asking if you need to tile both the Reflectance 0° and Bump maps in order to have them match up? If that's the question then, yes, if you want them to both use the same tile x/y values, you need to set them that way - the 2 textures are independent of one another

Just let me know if I've missed your meaning.

Thanks JD, yes you have answered my question. If I change the refectance scale then I should change the bump scale.

Thank you

JD,
I see, that I can drag and drop copy with and without settings maps but is there also a way to link the texture scale changes in all maps in a material layer/the entire mxm? I was thinking of maybe holding Ctrl+LMB for changing scale values of a single layer and Ctrl+Shift+LMB for changing map scale values of all layers. Is something like this already there and I have only missed it?

Hi Holger,

No, you're not missing anything...let me see how easy it would be to do that.

Cheers,

JD

not kidding. :)

It's just good that you posted about those issues this morning (well, morning here :) ), because I didn't know about them, and I was just about to upload the new version with the previously-known problems fixed...

Incredible. Well, while we're at it. It would be good to be able to change the projection channel of all layers at a time too.

I'm really impressed by your competence JD. I don't know much about you and what's your main job but your are definitely very talented...impressive.

Hi Bjorn, it works with:

- Tile X
- Tile Y
- Tile Size X
- Tile Size Y
- Offset X
- Offset Y
- Channel
- Invert
- Real Scale
- the 'Reset' buttons

Cheers. :)

Quoted for agreement.

Just curious: Did you also find a way to link scale values for those who prefer entering numeric values instead of using the slider functionality?
I would not have a good idea of accomplishing this elegantly...

Maybe snapping to even and half (.5) numbers for the slider could make people who prefer typing use the sliders - just an idea...

Hi Holger,

You really do notice the small things, don't you. :D

Here's how it goes...if you have the modifier keys pressed when the textbox loses focus...then the value will be copied to the other textures accordingly. So:

- enter textbox
- change value
- hold down modifier keys
- shift focus somewhere else

Fwiw...modifier keys don't play nicely with TAB or ENTER for moving around...with ENTER, nothing happens, and with TAB, the operation completes, but the Material Manager shifts to the Scene Materials tab. Due to technical details, handling keys in a child dialog to Rhino's main window is a bit wacky sometimes.

Cheers,

JD
