Hey Thomas, can you explain how you use a custom texture with Rhino displacement. I see the procedurals, and there is a basic texture button, but I have not been able to make it work. Is it linked to the basic material texture, because I tried that and it did not work either. After applying ExtractDisplacedMeshes it shows no change.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Stephen,

If you select the "blank" bitmap option in the displacement menu, you can right click it when it appears as the displacement texture. This gives you an "edit" option, which opens a new menu, allowing you to browse for the bitmap to use.

Hope that makes sense!

Embarrassed that I didn't try that :)

Thanks

However, I'm getting nowhere trying to move the texture mapping widget in order for my displacement map to cover a smaller area. Is this possible? It is affecting the entire surface whichever way I do it.

I can get the widget to work, and get different results, but it always affects the entire surface. When ever I use a custom texture it crashes.

I have only played for a couple of evenings with it, so you guys, by now, probably know more than me on this.
