hello, this question might be a bit silly. but i am looking for a "foolproof" way of setting up the camera in rhino 4. how do i get objects perfectly focused / exported into maxwell studio 1.6 (rhino 4.0 with sp2a and the latest maxwell plug-in for rhino installed) so that all elements in the scene are perfectly in focus ??? (from the nearest edge of the object to the farthest corner in the background). i am facing this difficulties expecially when rendering small to medium size objects (ca. 10*10*10cm). does that have anything to do with "scene scale" ???

Hi slateman,

Yes and no - you need to model things at the correct scale, but that's as simple as making sure you're modeling in cm in Rhino, then actually drawing things at their actual size in cm. Regarding getting focus on the entire model, that's a pretty tall order I think, seeing that you are asking for a 10cm depth of field when the camera is probably very close to the subject. Maxwell is very realistic in the way it models a camera, so I guess it would probably help to back up off the subject and use a different lens length. The other big factor is the fStop - on a small scene like this, you will need a much higher fStop than the camera has by default. With higher fStop, you will need to adjust exposure by using the shutter speed and/or film ISO parameters to let more light in.

To get any specific numbers, it would probably be helpful to post an example of what you're trying to do, and how it isn't working.

Cheers,

JD

thanks JDHill for your fast reply. i will check your tipps out and (in the worst case) will post a scene-file with a test-scene i am just experiencing around with.
