System: Mac OSX, SU Pro 2014, Maxwell Render v3.0.5

This is a difficult issue to explain but I will try!

If you view the Maxwell resources via the fire window (e.g. materials), it does not allow you to get back to the standard fire window options - so the fire window becomes a permanent browser window...

I have tried closing the fire window and re opening it (and all other Maxwell tools etc) but the issue remains.

The only way to get the standard fire window functionality back is to quit sketch up and re open.

Thanks, I had not noticed this before -- those links should open a new browser window, but they aren't. Until that is fixed, if you use them, to get back, you should be able to right-click and hit Back.
