emitter as channel

Is it possible somehow to render only a single emitter and obtain an .mxi with just a single layer in Photoshop, with just that emitter?

In the same way as shadows can be exported as a separate channel, why isn't there an option too for emitters in the list?

In my particular case I have a large number of emitters scattered over the image - which contains a lot of 3D geometry- and I want to animate them (different emitters are on and off in time).

I would like to avoid rendering everything (geometry, other emitters, shadows etc etc) for all the lighting sequences and just obtain a layer in Photoshop (.mxi) with just the light of that particular emitter and its effect on the environment.

If this isn't currently possible, could it be a future feature?

if you apply different emitter materials you should get separated "layers" with multilight.

If I understood correctly you want to use the "Separated" option in the Multilight option:
