In MXLrender we can uncheck the color channel and the MXI write ability. It works good, I use this feature to render many matériel ID via différent renderlayer on Maya (RVB pass are often used on compositing for mask in animation sequence).

But when I tried to render my MXS sequence on the network, it doesn't work because Monitor try to move the final render MXI on the output folder even if the MXI/color is uncheck.

To counter this bug I just render color/MXI with basic mat on all my object but the render time is bigger and in my mind a bit too much for an simply ID pass.
