modo Plugin - Decal material Problem

When the modo plugin translates materials to Maxwell it does not correctly create 'decal' layers from tga/png/tif image files that are being used in modo with alpha channels.

Hello Julian,

Do you think about image layers on top of each other?

Yes, it is a limitation, the plug-in can't blend the image layers, and modo SDK doesn't give any help. But I am thinking about a solution.....

Hi Marton - yes, I guess because maxwell creates materials in such a unique way and doesnt handle alphas like most renderers it will be a challenge.

The plugin is great when the materials are simple - I have had more success from modo than 3dsmax so far, quite impressive!

Opening into the studio makes more sense with complex materials so that you can work through them making corrections.

I know nothing about either SDK but is it not possible to get the modo plugin to recognise a material that uses an image and its alpha and force maxwell to create a second masked layer in that material?

Looking forward to your solution

Julian

Hi Julian,

Theoretically it is possible to create second layer of course, but I have some other problems with this solution. But I will improve the plug-in of course:)
