Error reading HDR

I am trying to use Image Based environment, just for reflection/refraction. I have linked to MR's radsky_017.hdr, but when I try to preview in Fire I get this error:

Why am I getting this error?

I'm not sure why you are getting it, but I have no issue with the same file over here... I'd look for a local problem, maybe move the file to the desktop and try again.

Best,
Jason.

I don't recall ever seeing that message before, and the file works fine here too. I'd suspect that the file itself could be corrupt on your disk. Can you open it in Studio, or in any other HDR-capable program?

I get this message occasionally, too. I think there might be a memory leak somewhere. If I close Sketchup, start it up again, and rerun the render it loads the HDR just fine.

That's been my experience so far - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Usually there is no problem once I save, close, and reopen.

A related question to this: I would like this hdri to show up as reflections in the water and glass in my rendering, but I can only achieve this if I set the Illumination to use the HDR. Unfortunately, that makes my scene really dark and messes with the shadows. How can I get the effect I want?
