Open VDB files

Was wondering if Rhino with Maxwell can use OpenVDB files? I see that V3.1 of Maxwell now uses OpenVDB but not sure if Rhino can use it. Rhino nor Studio can import them.

OpenVDB files are not opened directly, they are used via the Maxwell Volumetric extension. This type is not yet supported in the Maxwell Volumetric UI in the plugin though (it will be in the next build), so at the moment, you would need to use Studio.

I see that now. I loaded up a VDB file from the site openvdb.org that was shaped like a rabbit. It did not affect the shape of the fog in Maxwell. :/.

Did you set the MaxwellVolumetric's Field Type to Volume File?

Well when I fill in these 2 parts, Studio will not render out to Fire or Maxwell. Are these the correct settings for a VDB file?

That would be working fine for me here (I test with the bunny.vdb and bunny_cloud.vdb files, which I guess you have), so there must be more to the story. Please try starting a brand new MXS file, adding a MaxwellVolumetric object, setting the Field Type to Volume file based, and the File Name to bunny.vdb or bunny_cloud.vdb. This should work fine.

There it goes!! I was importing a volumetric via Rhino and then adding the VDB file.

You could just use the vdb file directly in Rhino, if you update to the build (
see here) I uploaded yesterday.
