I didnt import them either, I just copied the mxm files and started using them, they look fine.

Yes, but you have an infinite number of shiny (or not) plastics available, using the "Plastic" material wizard. And if you make one that you really like, you can drop it into the MXM Browser to export it to disk for later use.

By importing, I mean dragging an MXM file into Rhino. The MXM is a file on your disk, written with V1, and it needs to be read in order for you to use it -- that is where the translation comes in. In some cases it will be acceptable, but not in others.
