The only times I have seen this, it has been due to an out of memory scenario. Since you say it occurs during export, rather than rendering, I am going to guess you are using either Rhino 4 or Rhino 5 x86, and that if you monitor Rhino4.exe in Task Manager, you will see memory getting into the 2.5+ GB range near the time of the error. Does this seem to be an accurate diagnosis?

yes. Rhino4 and error occurs when rhino at 3.2 GB

So is the file just to big to render?

In a 32-bit process, yes, but provided there is enough physical memory (and a 64-bit OS), it should work fine in Rhino 5 x64.

ok. So I tried a test in rhino 5

I downloaded the latest plugin version 2.7.22 and installed ok. But when I try to switch to Maxwell render in rhino it says

Unable to make "Maxwell for Rhino" the current render plug-in

Is this because I am running a demo version of 5.0 ?? (no save options)

I believe that when a Rhino trial expires (that would be indicated by save being disabled), it will no longer load plugins.
