Working with Windows 7 Pro 64 OS.

Have i7 2720 QM CPU 2.2 GHz processor in Dell workstation with 8 GB RAM.

When I look at the Resource Monitor for Physical Memory during a render, it never goes much about 4 GB.
Is this normal? Shouldn't it be trying to maximize the amount of RAM? What do I need to check to make sure my memory settings are maximized for this rendering (Rhino plug-in)?

Thanks.

Thanks. The CPU is at 100%.

So basically you are saying that the operating system is managing the memory and that it is optimized.

Just for curiosity's sake, if this system were expanded to 16 GB ram (not sure that is even possible) would I see a big improvement in rendering time/power? About how much?

Or, is the system being optimized with this particular CPU configuration?

If your cpu is ever not @ 100% some time (some minutes) after starting the render, you have too little ram :)
Think about it like fuel in a tank.. Car drives no matter if it is almost empty or full packed .. But a Full tank won't make a car faster

Amount of ram? Seriously there is no straight answer.. It all depends on what you are rendering and on the resolution, multilight etc.

8gb however i'd consider at the low end for today standard. Get 16 if you. can
