z-clip placement

Hi,

Using z-clip for the first time now, how or what do the values of z-clip relate to? From camera or target or..? Can the planes be made visible in some way?

Thanks,

Eric.

Ok, figured it out already. From camera pov, values in meters so divide by 1000, if you work in mm like i do.

Also note that there are commands in the plugin's Camera toolbar for setting z-clip interactively, by picking points in the viewport.

Hi JD;

have been able to make one render: Now i get the following message;

Maxwell: warning: Invalid zNear/zFar planes (method: camera.setCutPlanes) (caller=Maxwell.Scenes.error_callback)

Any idea what causes this? Redoing the interactive plane placement does not resolve the issue.

Thanks.

No, I couldn't say what would cause that. What scale are you modeling at, how far away is the camera, and what are the z-clip values?

modelling in 1:1 in mm, camera 200000 mm away, z-clip 200 and 210. Took a file one step back, re-entered the same values and all is well again. Thinking back, i moved the camera after entering the z-clip values. As i am rendering a longitudinal section of a train, the idea was to render carriage by carriage from a big distance to compensate the perspective distortion, moving the camera each time. Perhaps i better use camera shift instead of moving the camera.

I still don't seem able to reproduce it using those values (@ 1000mm lens), so let me know if you see it happen again.
