default texture orientation

I find that almost EVERY texture needs to have z rotated to 90 to look right. Is there a default setting that can be changed so that the textures are mapped to z=90?

No, unlike in an app like Cinema, Rhino objects don't have any specific orientation; therefore, it is just by chance that the objects you're working with all seem to need the same rotation. It would be possible, though, for me to add some user-settings that would allow you to specify defaults for how mappings are rotated.
