how to change material from by object to by layer

this makes me feel dumb(er?)...I've assigned a material by object, which I can see in the Maxwell Object Properties, but can not find where/how to change it back to Material by Layer.

You just need to select the objects, go to Object Properties > Material, and set them to 'Assign by: Layer'.

thanks JD...must have needed a break...I looked right at that (first place I went) and it just did not register. Thx for your patience with an old man
