Maxwell Render | Official public forum

Hello JD,

I am getting error while trying to install plugin: it cannot detect maxwell installation and directs me to 'maxwell_root' faq.
Maxwell seems to be properly installed and running. And I could not find anywhere how to resolve this. Maybe i missed something.

working on winXP64, with latest Rhino 4.0 SR.

Hi Raja,

The installer expects two things to be true:

- that an environment variable named MAXWELL2_ROOT exists
- that there is a file named maxwell.exe in the directory that MAXWELL2_ROOT points to

Installers for 1.x are looking for MAXWELL_ROOT and mxcl.exe.

x64 works fine with rhino 5.0 beta.
still can't get x86 to work.
no hurry, just testing.

sorry for delayed response. Upgrading first at home, only possible to test in evenings.

I added environmental variables, plugins now work for both Rhino4.0 SR5 and Rhino 5 beta.
I can use maxwell 2 from Rhino 4.0, but in Rhino command window it still shows error:

Maxwell: Maxwell Render not found. The Maxwell for Rhino 4 plugin does not contain any direct rendering functionality, and therefore requires that Maxwell Render to be installed on this machine. If this is the case, please use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the program, before reinstalling. If you continue to receive this error after installation/reinstallation, please contact Next Limit support.
Maxwell: Required paths check failed

You can ignore that warning - it's a bug, but it's cosmetic and should not affect anything concretely. All that's happening is that there is still one part of the code that is looking for MAXWELL_ROOT, rather than MAXWELL2_ROOT. It only causes that error to be printed in the cmd line; all actual work is done using what is found at MAXWELL2_ROOT.

Let me know if this matches with what you're seeing there.

I'm getting the same message, and happy to hear I don't need to un-install and re-install...
So I'll just wait until this "cosmetic" bug is fixed

Same error msg her on Windows7 + Rhino 4.0,. however, rendering launches without problems.
