Hi,
is backface rendering possible with emitter material ?

What are you trying to do exactly?

i'm trying to get the backface of a mesh shaded as well.

This might be part of a bigger issue (bug?). I am trying to render a piece of paper with different graphics on each side (it is a simple single polygon). I have applied different materials to the main and backface parameters but it still shows the same material on both. Is the backface feature working in Softimage (2014)?

yea just from the SI 2014 Texture Decal it's rendering both sides. I was using the same texture though.

Right now the engine only supports adding backface materials on meshes, so at the moment backface materials are supported via a parameter in the Maxwell Mesh Attributes property. Let us know if there are any other workflows in XSI to add a backface material to a mesh that you would like us to support.
If you set the backface material in the mesh attributes and it still doesn't appear, can you send me a scene that I can use to reproduce this bug ?

Hi Raduc,
thx for reply. I had used it but it gives me black backfaces yet.

Sent you .scn tp pm

I forwarded this question to the engine guys and unfortunately this is a limitation, backface materials can't be emitters.

Maybe duplicate the geometry, apply an emitter material to it, and hide it to camera?

yea that's one way for lighting effect. in my case i just gave it dimension.
