Are they exported via MDD? If something else, what?

I don't have any good ideas w.r.t. workaround, unfortunately. I too would really like to see motion blur enabled for PLA/deformation, precisely because there really doesn't seem any particularly viable workaround for dealing with such alterations otherwise, and MDD-based (and now, also Alembic-based) animation data transport really needs the option to support motion blurring.

Jeremy, is support for PLA/deformation motion blur coming "soon"? Or not even particularly looked at yet?

You won't find a workaround -- you need a copy of each mesh state written into the MXS (we can support only the "old-style" two steps per frame, as there is not support for per-vertex vector-based blur in Maxwell). As for "soon", I can't say; I have an idea how I might accomplish this, but I have yet to prove it can be made to work in actual practice.

Ah, well that's pretty much the answer I expected, no worries. Good luck and hope the idea pans out!
