Is there a possibility to see the .mxm in the content browser? right now the thumbnail shows a empty c4d scene.

Sorry, but no, we can't do that. To be more accurate, technically, we could, but then Cinema would assume MXM files were bitmaps and do the same thing it does when you drag/drop other bitmaps: create a Cinema material with the dragged file assigned to the material's color texture.
