Material preview in c4d viewport

Hi folks

I cannot see any textures in the c4D viewport anymore after having converted a c4d material to maxwell mxm (and having aplied that to the tag of course). In fire/maxwell.exe the texture shows properly.
Maxwell plugin preferences in c4d suggest, that there should be some kind of preview of the texture. Or am I wrong and there is no possibility to see in c4d how the texture (of an mxm material) is placed onto the geometry?

Cheers,
Rogurt

crashes with tga textures

having severe crashes when not rendering with fire but in mawell app I found that the problem seems to be a checker shader beeing converted to an maxwell texture (tga). if I manually resave the tga as tif and reload that into the mxm material (as exchange for the tga) maxwell app wont crash if opened from within c4d. Fire works fine all the time.

Tested on Mac OS X 10.6.8 c4d R12

P.S. I already have my c4d R13 and thought what the heck maybe maxwell plug works here too. It does. but same scene produces WAY different results (much brighter). So you´ll wan to wait for a new plug release...

If you open the plugin's Material Editor and select the material in question, you will find that you can choose which texture you would like to be shown, using the 'Active Texture' drop-down, just below the material's preview image (it works similar to Maxwell MXED).

I found what would appear to be an identical bug in the SDK I'm currently using for internal builds, so I suppose there is a possibility that the same may be present in the recent Maxwell Render update for OSX Lion. Could you indicate which version of Maxwell Render you are using? You can find this by opening Maxwell.app and going to Maxwell > About Maxwell.

Are you sure you were rendering the same Scene Object and/or camera? Unless there have been changes in Cinema which would affect how Cinema emitter materials would be converted, I can think of no mechanism by which the version of Cinema would have such an effect.

Maxwell app is version 2.5.1.1 OSX 64
I also tested the tga crash thing under Win7 64bit (also with newest version of maxwell/c4d R12/ export plug). Everything worked just fine - no crashes...

Regarding the differences of the output under R13 compared to R12: I freshly opened the identical scene in both versions and did a fast rendering in fire. The results are really different. Sent you an email with screenshot (cannot attach pictures here in the forum?).

That is what I figured. You could post a bug report about this, but I already brought it to the attention of the core developers, and it has been fixed in the code where it existed. I don't know of any temporary workarounds.

I don't doubt they're different, but the question is why? R13 could be returning a different range of values for some parameter, or the scene scale could be different (or could be being interpreted differently) when opening the document in R13...there are lots of things which could have this general effect. Unfortunately, no image was attached to your email, and none of the scenes I've tested here exhibit similar behavior, so I can't yet guess about the cause.

In the forum here, I see a Browse... button for adding files to posts, but if you don't see that, or if it is not working, people have generally used an image upload site like imageshack.us to upload images, then linked to them in their forum posts using the "[ url ] http://host.domain/file.ext [ /url ]" bbcode tags.

Sorry, but I'm not seeing any image. I checked the link on imageshack, and it reports 'x' for the image resolution...I'm not sure what that means.
