Any way to export a spherical HDR of a scene?

Hi folks,

with C4D´s internal tools and renderer it´s possible to set up a scene, put a reflective sphere in the center, put a bake texture tag on that sphere and bake out the reflections on that sphere as an HDR. Unfortunately this just seems to work with C4D´s internal renderer.

Is there any chance to do something similar but with Maxwell as renderer in C4D? Basically I want to set up a studio lighting scene in C4D with Maxwell with modelled softboxes and all that stuff and want to export this scene as an HDRI for later simple use (e.g. without using Maxwell, just put on a C4D sky and use C4D´s own renderer (or use it in other 3D packages like Maya etc...)

If it´s not possible in C4D, any chance in Maya?

Thanks a lot for your help.
Marco

There is no way of doing it automatically, but it is possible to do manually, just as you would in real life: set up a mirror ball, render the desired views, and remap/stitch them using whichever software you wish. Most any information you can find about doing this in real life will apply when doing it in Maxwell as well. For what it's worth, Rhino uses the light probe format for environment mapping of objects; the environment map I use in that plugin for giving reflective appearances to materials is a room which I created in Rhino and rendered in Maxwell.

Thanks!

Yes, the "real life" approach with Maxwell would have been my second way. Seems I have to go this way, actually.

Thanks again,
