Hello - I'm in need of help - I really love the new MW and Cinema integration - with FIRE implementation - so fast - great image quality - BUT I'm having trouble with the basics - being able to layer materials onto an object (the skis) suitable to render via C4d=>MW - simple as it appears I'm stumped

Here is my renders - Image

The original cinema4d render is made up from a flat colour jpg (uv map full) with a carbon graphite effect (tiled) and a logo with alpha mask (psd file - using the transparent alpha direct from psd file).

Where the export plugin manages to do an ok job / pseudo effect of the full colour jpg and tiled graphite effect merged together - I've lost the logo and the reflective detail from the graphite. I am also having trouble getting my head round being able to layer the materials so cine-maxwell can understand - colour backdrop (full not tiled) - graphite effect (tiled) - logo (small part of the object not tiled) - reflective layer (full)

SO - does anyone know of a good tutorial for maxwell materials and uv mapping techniques? or am I missing the obvious - any light on the matter greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

It is not intended that you would be able to 'remote-control' Maxwell via Cinema materials; limited translation is provided, but there is no logical way to map many Cinema materials to Maxwell ones, since the systems are so dissimilar. In a case like this, I would recommend converting the Cinema material into a Maxwell material in the plugin, and then editing the Maxwell material to your requirements using the provided material editor.

sage advice - in my enthusiasm I often forget to RTFM - so did what you said - and am getting the gist of it now and the mxm layering system is very slick - and how the new fire plugin is essential to see what the output will be without jumping back and forward to studio. I read somewhere a request for fire to show active object only within cinema, pretty please (it would be awesomely useful). Thanks (One question - when a material is set to a flat or cubic projection within cinema, with no tiling. It tiles on the maxwell output - is there anyway to turn the tiling off?)

Yes, you will want to leave tiling alone in the texture tag, and instead control it from the Maxwell texture. Reason being, one might have two (or a hundred) Maxwell textures in the material, with one tiled, and one not.
