Predictable question - is it compatible with Maxwell? 8)

My guess would be nope! it's not compatible, so much has changed under the hood of release 12 that most if not all old plugins requires rewriting to some degree for them to work with release 12. But the extra wait that requires might be worth it considering the new stuff 12 offers. :)

I have found it on Maxon's website too:

http://www.maxon.net/products/general-i ... sions.html
R12 scenes are not downward compatible.
Plugins developed in C++ or Py4D need to be adapted for R12. Plugins for CINEMA 4D R11.5 or earlier will not work in CINEMA 4D R12. Developers should visit MAXON's Plugin Café for further information on how to adapt plugins for R12.

So I will stay with 11.5 and wait for all plugins developers to adapt all plugins I use to newest version. And meanwhile I will test new features of R12... :)
In order to minimize the impact for our customers, MAXON has augmented the End User License Agreement for product upgrades to allow users to leave the previous version installed for the purpose of adjusting, tweaking or re-rendering old scenes, if needed.

My only concern is if this new version is going to break the support for older versions like now I guess the plugin support R9.6.

Cheers

Well, the R9.6-R11 code exists, and this doesn't change that, so I don't see dropping support for it. What it will do is to slow down development though, since there are now three separate targets: R9.6-R11, R11.5, and R12. It would have been better, since they had to know that they were going to break everything in R12, to keep R11.5 compatible with prior versions and save all of the changes for R12.

But it is what it is, so let's code. :)

I was just about to buy C4D. I wonder if you can still buy 11.5 or get access to it.

Cgtalk cinema forum, R12 thread, some people are very upset.

vray4c4d also not compatible, witch one will be the first solid version for R12?

Yeah, Cinema because of its awesome modularity was the only Entertainment Industry geared program I could imagine to buy.
Now that they have dropped this approach I certainly will no more waste a thought on that.

I read one now seriously has to own one of two pricier options to be able to use external Plugin-Renderers at all!

I have read on cgtalk it is not true... You can use external render plugins even with Prime (cheapest) version. And I hope that is really the true... :?

Whatever the case, it should not be able to affect us -- we are not a render plugin, but more of an exporter with a UI.

How will this work when you later on (i assume) implement a realtime cpu preview window in C4D ? then you need to do some extra rewriting around that i guess..

Hi Stefan -- I did respond to your p.m., but it must have been lost when the server problem was fixed. I have just uploaded the new builds for testers. I would post them here as a preview right away, but there is so much code changed to accomodate R12 that I want to give the testers a look first.

I can test too, also in conjunction with the recent Realflow Plugin for R12
