IES via Cinema plug-in

I haven't used IES yet so I thought I'd give it a go but the plug-in doesn't appear to support it, is that right?

Of course it does. :) Add an emitter to your material - when it is in 'Color and Luminance' mode, you will be able to browse for an IES/EULUMDAT file.

I´ll like to jump this topic with a little wish.
If is possible to have a "preview" of the IES material when is applied to an object like in Studio? maybe a serie of splines or something.
Sorry if I´m hijacking the topic.

Cheers
JC

I would take a special tag to do that, along with fundamental changes to how materials work in the plugin, so it is not a trivial addition.

It'd be a bit difficult to usefully portray IES as a line diagram in viewport, IMO. It might be nice if we could see the IES "shape" in a little 2D preview window within material attributes, though (IIRC, Blackstar's "IES shader" does this).

After the "Dichomic glass/LED" discussion (in main MW2 forum), one thing that would be extra nice is if there was some way, given an IES file, to provide guidance about the expected emitter shape/size. I'm not sure if there's adequate metadata (or if consistent enough across vendors) to do so, but if possible it could really save time.

That would be helpful for a start - how does this work?

Pretty simple, I just added support for IES/LDT in the Explorer thumbnails plugin.

Hehe, will it also be added to the Mac Maxwell quicklook plugin, if not in there already?

I already asked Nacho and he said it should be pretty easy.

That'd be rather helpful, if possible. Thanks!
