hi,

need one more times help. is it possible to render a jpg directly as background or must it be added in post?

The only type of built-in background is the Image Based Lighting (a.k.a. IBL) Background channel, which uses HDR formats only. So, you can either render with alpha and composite in post, convert the JPG to an HDR format (HDR/EXR/MXI) and use it in the IBL Background channel (probably with Screen Mapping enabled, and the other channels set to use Active Sky), or build physical geometry, assigned a material using the JPG, to use as a background.
