Started this behavior after I've created a material with displacement (don't know if it has something to do with it).
every action causes Maya to freeze for about a minute or even more.
I'm on V.3 btw., 2016 ext.2 sp.2.
Scene is simple, only a small toilet room!
Think it happens when I open the hypershade. not sure...
Anyone had this?

not a maya user(anymore), but as you mention material creation, displacement and hypershade the thumbnail-calculation comes to mind.

if you use a preview scene in that material with high poly-count, then even a relatively low subdivision setting might mess things up like you are describing.

dumped displacement, now maya runs. damn.
