It seems to be a "cones" issue.
"Blades" and "curves" look continuous and correctly shaped.
EDIT:
Also it looks like cones give expected results in FIRE but not in Maxwell launched from Maya plugin.

I got the scene, thanks. It looks like a problem in the hair code, I'll talk to the developer in charge.
