Asking for a Maxwell Layered Material in the hypershade, or asking for a new hypershade window using the new button at the top of the screen are great ways to instantly crash Maya.

I've crashed maybe 8 times tonight just trying to get a hypershade window or trying to get a Maxwell material.

Could you provide step-by-step instructions what you did?

Clicking on new Maxwell Layered Material in Hypershade didn't crash Maya here.

- Windows 7 x64
- Maya 2015 SP6 + Maxwell 3.1.12 plugin
- Maya 2016 SP1 + Maxwell 3.1.12 plugin

Scene is very simple and in each case I either touched the new hypershade button or I tried to create a Maxwell shader in the hypershade.

Often this crashing occurs during a period after a render has been launched from the plugin, viewed, and then discarded. It does not seem to happen in the period immediately after opening the scene. It is also not a scene-specific problem.

I sent some dmp files via dropbox link through customer gateway

I have had this effect with various plugin versions, Maya versions, and Maxwell versions, but at the moment I am up to date with the latest from the betas and Maya is 2016 SP1

I am getting crashes as well, but with different steps. (I tried to follow your steps but it did not crash)
  1. Open a new scene
  2. Create > Polygon Primitives > Plane
  3. Assign new material... > Maxwell Layered Material
  4. Display Hypershade Window
  5. In Hypershade window select "maxwellLayeredMaterial1"
  6. In Hypershade window select a menu item: Edit > Duplicate > Shading Network
  7. Close Hypershade window
  8. Select pPlane1
  9. Go to Attribute editor
  10. Switch to maxwellLayeredMaterial1 tab
  11. CRASH
Mac OS X 10.10.4, Maya 2016 SP1, Maxwell plugin 3.1.12.

I also crash as above.

Hi,

The layers tree control was implemented under the assumption that only one instance will be present at any given time. Maya 2016 adds an attribute editor panel inside Hypershade, so this assumption no longer holds. I've reorganized the code when I added support for 2016 to handle multiple instances, but I missed some cases, hence this crash. I've fixed the bug now on Windows and I will try to publish a new beta build tomorrow, after I get the OSX and Linux versions to work too.
