Why Can't I Render Constant / Noise3D Volumetrics in Maya?

I have a scene lit with an HDR environment for ambient and Maya spotlight for key.

Made a Maxwell volumetric cube and encased scene within it. Made sure Maya lights are on in globals. Made sure lights are visible to camera. Cranked density to max just to test that feature works. Hit render, no volumetrics whatsoever.

What am I missing here to do something as simple as see my spotlight's beams in a render?

Running latest 3.1 and Maya Plugin release on OSX 10.10.3 in Maya 2014. Workstation is Late 2013 Mac Pro, 3.5GHz six-core, dual 6GB GFX, 64G RAM.

Thanks.

I figured it out... the current release Maya Plugin has a bug preventing volumetrics from working. The latest beta will render them, but unfortunately they're prohibitively slow to render at even very basic / light settings.
