Incandescent metalic piece

Here I have posted this in the maxwell forum:

And the answer by Hatts suggest a possible solution using multiples UVs

I wonder if we can do that in Maya: Using a single geometry, with two UVs, and asigning two materials. One material will be a simple metal, and the other which would go on top of the previous should be the incandecent emiter material with a clip map.

You can assign materials per-face, and you can have as many UV sets as you want. However, it will be difficult to achieve the transition where the metal is cooler and shows its regular surface partially. I think it's best to use a masked emitter layer on top of the metal.
