3ds Max Fire response speed vs Studio Fire

I find the response speed of the plugin version of Fire very, very slow. The preprocessing and voxelization takes 3 or 4 times as long as it does with the same scene and materials in Studio. Is this to be expected?
I remember it as being more or less similar with the C4D plugin - a large discrepancy between the plugin and Studio.
